Weather Conditions: What a perfect day to be out on Mosquito Lagoon for some inshore fishing! The weather couldn’t have been better, starting with cool, crisp morning temps around 72°F and warming up to a pleasant 81°F by midday. Skies have been a mix of sun and clouds, giving you just enough shade to stay cool while enjoying the beautiful views. The humidity is at a comfortable level, making it feel like the ultimate fall fishing experience.
Wind Conditions: The winds today? Absolutely ideal! Light northeast breezes at 5-10 mph have made casting and cruising a breeze—pun intended! The water has stayed calm for most of the day, and that slight ripple on the flats has only helped anglers spot feeding fish. If you’re into sight fishing, today’s been your day!
Fishing Conditions: Conditions are ON FIRE right now in Mosquito Lagoon! The water is crystal clear, and fish have been actively feeding. The recent cool-down has ignited the bite, especially with redfish and trout. Early birds working the shallow flats and grassy areas have been rewarded with some serious action using topwater lures and soft plastics. As the sun rises higher, live shrimp and mullet have been the go-to bait in deeper waters and channels.
The tides have been working perfectly in anglers’ favor with a mid-morning incoming tide bringing baitfish into the shallows and a slow outgoing tide in the afternoon. Fish have been swarming grass beds, oyster bars, and drop-offs, making every cast a potential hookup!
Inshore Fishing Species Caught:
Redfish (Red Drum): Today’s redfish bite has been off the charts! Schools of redfish are all over the flats, with slot-sized reds (18-27 inches) being caught left and right. Whether you’re casting live bait or lures, the reds are hungry and ready to put up a fight.
Spotted Seatrout: The trout bite has been hot, especially in the morning. Big gator trout, some over 20 inches, have been slamming soft plastics and shrimp imitations. If you’re after a trophy trout, today was definitely your lucky day.
Black Drum: For those targeting deeper waters, black drum have been bending rods near the oyster bars and channels. Anglers have hauled in fish weighing between 10 and 20 pounds on shrimp and crab setups.
Snook: Snook hunters, rejoice! A few good-sized snook have been lurking around the mangroves, smashing live mullet and soft plastics. These powerful fish aren’t as plentiful today, but those who’ve hooked one know it’s worth the effort.
Flounder: Bottom anglers have landed some nice flounder near sandy drop-offs, especially on the outgoing tide. Live mullet and jigs worked along the bottom have been the ticket for these flatfish.
In short, today’s been nothing short of a fishing dream on Mosquito Lagoon. Light winds, clear water, and an aggressive bite—what more could you ask for? If you haven’t hit the water yet, what are you waiting for? The action is on, and the fish are biting!
