Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report - November 1, 2024

Fishing at Mosquito Lagoon

Weather and Conditions:

November 1st provided ideal fishing weather, with light winds around 5-10 mph and temperatures ranging from the high 60s to low 70s. The cooler air and water temperatures have boosted fish activity, especially closer to shore. Water clarity was excellent, making for prime sight-fishing conditions.

Wind Conditions:

Gentle, consistent winds maintained calm waters throughout the day, making fishing comfortable and offering excellent casting control. Such conditions also made it easier to spot fish moving across flats and around structures.

Fishing Conditions:

Fall fishing at Mosquito Lagoon is at its peak, with an abundance of baitfish in the area, which in turn attracts inshore predators in large numbers. Early morning and late afternoon hours have proven the most productive, as fish are highly active in the cooler parts of the day. With water clarity remaining high, this is an outstanding time for sight fishing, as fish are feeding eagerly.

Inshore Species Caught:

Redfish: The redfish bite was excellent, especially around shallow grass flats and sandy potholes. Early morning hours proved productive, with redfish actively feeding on mullet schools. Sight fishing is highly effective right now. Anglers using live shrimp and cut mullet found success, while those throwing soft plastic jerk baits and gold spoons also reported solid action.

Seatrout: Speckled trout are moving into the shallows, taking advantage of the baitfish still hanging around. They are especially active during the cooler morning and late afternoon hours. Topwater lures are providing exciting strikes during the early hours, while soft plastics and jigs rigged with shrimp are working well throughout the day.

Black Drum: Black drum are schooling up in some of the deeper holes and channels around Mosquito Lagoon. Fresh shrimp on a jig head has been the go-to setup for anglers targeting these fish, with slow presentations yielding the best results. These drum are providing a great option for those looking for a more relaxed approach.

Tarpon: Some juvenile tarpon are still active in the area, but they’re becoming less predictable as water temperatures drop. For those looking to target them, live bait and small, flashy lures in the backwater canals and creeks have been working well.

Flounder: The flounder bite has picked up as well, with fish being caught near the sandy bottom edges and around docks. A jig with a live mullet or shrimp has been productive.
