Weather Conditions
On November 7, Mosquito Lagoon experienced cool, breezy conditions typical of early November in Florida. The temperature ranged from the low 60s in the morning to the mid-70s by midday, creating comfortable conditions for anglers. Skies were mostly sunny, with only a few clouds, and a gentle northeast wind at 5-10 mph. This cooler weather has helped lower water temperatures, keeping them in the mid-70s, ideal for active fish behavior and an increase in fish feeding patterns.
Water Conditions and Clarity
Water clarity in Mosquito Lagoon was excellent today. With the cooler temperatures, the seasonal algae bloom has reduced, leaving clear waters, especially around the sandy flats and grassy areas. Clarity is essential this time of year as it helps both the angler and the fish—making it easier to sight-cast and for fish to detect bait.
Species Caught
Several fish species were actively biting today:
Redfish: Redfish were abundant and could be found cruising along the flats in shallow waters.
Speckled Trout: Good numbers were caught in the deeper grass beds and near mangroves.
Black Drum: Larger black drum were found in deeper areas and around structures.
Snook: While a bit more elusive, a few snook were spotted around the mangroves.
Sheepshead: Sheepshead were actively feeding and responsive to bait.
Gear, Tackle, and Bait
Rod and Reel: Light to medium spinning rods with a fast action reel were popular today, especially for casting accurately along the flats. A 7' rod with 10-15 lb braided line provided the control needed for both shallow water finesse and handling larger fish.
Bait:
Live Shrimp: Always a favorite, live shrimp on a circle hook were effective for redfish, trout, and sheepshead.
Cut Mullet: Used particularly for redfish, mullet has an enticing scent that draws fish in shallow waters.
Soft Plastics and Topwater Lures: Soft plastics in natural colors, particularly shrimp and mullet imitations, were successful for trout and snook. Topwater lures had some early morning strikes, especially in calmer areas.
Crabs: Effective for black drum, small blue crabs or cut crab were used near structures.
Fishing in November at Mosquito Lagoon
November is one of the best months to fish Mosquito Lagoon. The cooler weather makes for comfortable conditions and also sparks fish activity, especially for redfish and speckled trout. The water clarity improves significantly with cooler temperatures, enhancing sight fishing for experienced anglers. Fish are often feeding aggressively this season, building up reserves for winter, so bites are frequent and rewarding. With these benefits, anglers can expect a productive day on the water with various species and quality catches. Book a fishing charter with Code Red Fishing Charters and let's go fishing!
